About Us

Maternal Health Initiative for Mothers

We are a Nigerian community-based nongovernmental organization whose sole purpose is to support, love, and cater to mothers. We help mothers navigate through the depths of motherhood while reinforcing positive parenting. Through our foundation’s maternal health initiatives for mothers, we curate initiatives aimed at alleviating the burdens associated with motherhood and ensuring maternal health.

At Maternal Health Initiative for Mothers, we are committed to supporting women through every stage of motherhood — before, during, and after compassionate care to mothers who might otherwise go without, ensuring they feel empowered and supported throughout the transformative journey of motherhood.

Inspired by our founder’s own experience, Maternal Health Initiative for Mothers was established to be a source of strength and comfort. Whether it’s prenatal guidance, birthday support, or postpartum care, we stand beside mothers every step of the way, helping them navigate each phase with confidence and dignity because it takes healthy mothers to raise good citizens and good citizens to build a great nation.

  • Our Motivation
  • Key Statistics Highlighting

In Nigeria, maternal and child health remains a critical issue with far-reaching implications for the nation's well being and development.

Nigeria faces significant challenges in maternal and child health, which directly affect the country's overall health indicators and socioeconomic development.

The high rates of maternal and infant mortality are stark indicators of the struggles faced by mothers and children. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that Nigeria accounted for approximately 20% of global maternal deaths in 2017, with a maternal mortality ratio of 512 per 100,000 live births.

Additionally, UNICEF data shows that one in eight Nigerian children dies before their fifth birthday.

The Severity Of The Problem Include:

Maternal Mortality: Nigeria's maternal mortality ratio is 512 deaths per 100,000 live births, significantly higher than the global average of 211

Access To Healthcare: Only 58% of pregnant women receive antenatal care, and just 36% of births are attended by skilled health personnel. Postpartum challenges significantly impact the well-being of Nigerian women.

Infant Mortality: The infant mortality rate stands at 74 deaths per 1,000 live births, compared to the global average of 29.

Postpartum Depression: Approximately 1 in 7 women in Nigeria experiences postpartum depression, a condition that can have severe consequences for both the mother and child if left untreated.

Lack Of Mental Health Support: There is a significant gap in mental health services for new mothers, with limited access to professional help and social support networks. These statistics underscore the urgent need for targeted interventions to improve maternal and child health outcomes in Nigeria.

Poor maternal and child health outcomes lead to increased healthcare costs, lost economic productivity, and social and developmental impacts.

The Maternal Health Initiative for Mothers is committed to addressing these challenges through comprehensive healthcare, education, mental health support, economic empowerment, policy advocacy, and community outreach.
